Round One Tips for Coaches
Round one should be a visually pleasing showcase of your teams best motions and jumps.
- You may NOT have any gymnastic skills or stunts in this round. You may do motions, kicks, hops and jumps, and thats it!
- You must have two different jumps. These must be performed in unison as prescribed in the cheer manual. They must be the first two jumps performed in the round. The sisters recommend you do an extra jump in this round ONLY if your team scores high (7+) on their jumps.
- You must have at least six formation changes in this round with five DIFFERENT formations. Make sure they are different enough that even if your girls are a bit off they will still look like different formations. The sisters recommend you do at least three extra formations as a safeguard against possible penalties.
- Formation changes should be no more than 2-3 steps to change pictures. Not all girls have to move to change the formation.
- The sisters recommend changing formations so that each girl has a "mirror buddy" on the other side of the formation that moves the same way and number of steps for each formation change.
- Don't forget to practice vocals and facials so that your team looks and sounds confident on the floor.
- Don't overshoot your team's ability. If they have motions that need work, choreograph a cheer that plays down their weak motions and highlights their stong ones.
- Need help choreographing? Ask the sisters! For a small fee we will help you choreograph a cheer that highlights your teams strengths!
