For our final week of 2008 Senior Spotlight we have decided
to honor four seniors.
Sabrina has been on the varsity team since her sophomore year. She is the varsity team captain this year and has shown great leadership skills. She does a great job of keeping the team fired up. She has worked hard improving her tumbling skills and is our "go to" girl for basing.
Sabrina is an honor student. She plans to attend Northwood Institute after graduation. The team will miss her next year!
Sabrina - Brethren High School
Nicole - Coopersville High School
Amanda has been on the Byron Center Varsity Cheer team for the past three years. Amanda's work ethic is what makes her so special, and everyone around her agrees that they wish they had the drive that this young woman does.
Amanda is a quiet, but strong leader. Whenever Amanda speaks about an issue - the team listens - she is highly respected. She is also a person that seeks to better herself in all areas of cheerleading - Amanda is constantly working on her tumbling skills and stunting skills and can go in for anyone at the drop of a dime because she is always ready to be there for her team when they need her.
Amanda is not sure where she will be attending college next year, but seeks to spread her infectious spirit in the area of special education and social work in the future. Amanda, without a doubt, will be one of the hardest workers and greatest teammate with any other team she is a part of!
Emily might possibly be the best cheerleader that anyone has ever seen. She is an outstanding tumbler, has awesome jumps, and is a great back spot. She is definitely deserving of this Senior spot light.
She has been cheerleading for all four years of high school, and she has loved almost every second of it. She always has an awesome attitude, and is always willing to help. She is just an all together great person/cheerleader. Recently she won a scholarship at the East Kentwood LMCCOA Scholarship competition, and she definitely deserved it. Other than cheerleading, she also does track where she is also extremely talented.
I have never met a more caring and honest individual in my life, she very much deserves this honor.
Nicole is the most dedicated cheerleader that I have ever seen. I have never seen anyone as dedicated as her. She has been a cheerleader since she was in 6th grade and has fallen in love with the sport. In 7th grade, she made the 8th grade competitive cheer team and was the only 7th grader to be moved up. In high school she was the only freshman to make the varsity cheer team.
As a junior, she had surgery and had to sit out for 10 weeks, unable to even do motions so as to not tear her incision open. She came back 1 week before the first competition and had to learn all 3 rounds and get all of her tumbling passes back, including her full. She ended up learning all 3 rounds easily and competed them all. She got her full back 2 days before her first competiton and landed it perfectly. This truly shows how hard she works. She put in many hours at gymnastics before the first competition just so that she could do her tumbling passes. She was also named All-Conference Honorable Mention that year.
As a senior, she is still in all 3 rounds and is a captain. She spent her entire off season lifting, doing plyometrics, and going to gymnastics in order to show a good example to her younger teammates of how important it is to stay focused on cheer even if you aren't practicing as a team yet. She spends all of her spare time watching videos on YouTube so that she can bring new ideas to practice. She spends the majority of her time either working out or looking up cheerleading information on the internet. She's also taking coed stunting lessons so that she will be well prepared for tryouts at GVSU. She does all of this while taking AP classes, working, and holding a 3.5 GPA. Cheerleading is her life and her hardwork shows on and off the mat.
