Tips for Success at Competitions
Once you have your material, you need to be able to successfully manage your team at the competition/meet so that they are ready to perform their best when they step on the mat.
The Sisters Recommend:
- Be calm - your girls are nervous. If you act nervous, your girls will become even more stressed out.
- Be positive - no one likes to be yelled at, especially not when they are stressed.
- Have a routine - always warm up the same way. Try to go through material the same way, the same order, etc. This will help your girls to know what to expect when they compete.
- Focus on goals your girls can control. Instead of "lets beat that team" or "lets get nines on this skill" try "no stunts fall" or "all pointed toes in the cartwheel." This way your girls can feel successful, even if they don't score well.
- Allow your girls to have fun. It is easy to focus on working and perfecting and competing, but don't forget this is supposed to be fun. Allow some time for your team to blow off some steam and be silly.
